The Van Has Officially Declared It Spooky Season
---
I've got my parent's van for the week and it seems determined to establish my status as The Local Cryptid by terrorizing an innocent 7-11 clerk.
...I might need to back up a bit.
My mother is an eminently sensible woman who knows herself well, and when The Plauge hit, she knew she'd need some sort of mentally and physically engaging craft project to keep herself from going insane and massacring the local zoning and water management boards (even if they have it coming). So she and Dad acquired a utility van and converted it into a camper van because while they love camping, they're past the age where their joints and immune systems will tolerate sleeping on the cold ground in a nylon tent.
They did a terrific job of it and my mom taught herself woodworking and carpentry and now the van has it's own cabinets, fold-away dining table, and removable queen-sized bed with memory foam mattress. My Dad was already a computer engineer, but he learned the dark magics of automotive software and electronics to install after-market backup cameras, a media player that would take a terabyte hard drive and a solar-powered battery and outlet so they could wake up and just turn on the kettle and griddle for breakfast without having to exit the van into a cold morning on an empty stomach.
Truly, the height of Camping Luxury.
My parents are both in their mid-seventies and my primary life goal is to be at least half as cool and hale as they are when I get old.
Anyway, they take it out at least a dozen times a year and it works fabulously, but, being as I am on good terms with my parents and also finishing the process of moving house, I've been borrowing it to move large and cumbersome objects that will not fit in the back of my equally lovely but minuscule Honda hatchback.
It's a Great Van. Very easy and comfortable to drive. Stunningly good MPG for it's size. The best cruise control I've ever had in a car.
It's just also. Quirky. Mischievous, even.
---
If this van has a fault its that it bears the unfortunate affliction that all lightly used white utility vans have in that the combination of an utter lack of branding features and the large dent/scrape I accidentally put on it while trying to escape a Denny's last Thanksgiving means that this vehicle is one addition of a Badly Spray-Painted "FREE CANDY" on the side away from being the sort of vehicle you see in an edgy horror movie.
It's got the same issue that Doberman Dogs have where they look like the sort of creature that likes to snack on toddler's faces whilst actually having personalities made of marshmallow fluff. This vehicle is unnecessarily menacing and I think nothing short of an airbrushed Epic Van Wizard will correct this. People see this van pull up and lean over and squint suspiciously at me when the driver's side door opens, and then look moderately confused when, instead of Charles Manson, a small, potato-shaped creature with neon purple hair and a statistically unlikely assortment of dogs emerges.
My own two dogs, Herschel the Hanukkah Goblin/Corgi and Charleston Chew The Taco Dumpster Dog, Do Not Like The Van. Even with the bed in it, they have a tendency to slide and roll around in the back, and both WILL chew through dog saftey belts or other attempts to secure them in there.
On the other hand, my house mate's dog, an exceptionally tall standard poodle whom we lovingly call "The Creature", loves the Van because SHE wears her doggy seat-belt with only mild complaining and gets to sit up in the passenger seat like A People.
Also like A People, The Creature likes to stand and walk around on her hind legs. It doesn't hurt her and it's entirely voluntary, but every so often I will feel a hand on my arm and instead of my husband or friend, it's a canine that's taller than I am on her hind legs who wants to stare at my face with soulful, concerned eyes. The Creature's favorite thing is that she is exactly the right height for me to hold her arm in Genteel Fashion and walk around the pet food or hardware store with her like I'm a count escorting a debutante around a royal ball.
---
As it stands, I am set to inherit this vehicle whenever my Honda gives up the ghost, and I fully intend to paint an Epic Van Wizard on it when that time comes.
The other peculiarity of The Van is that while Dad did manage to successfully install all his after-market electronics, not all the electronics get along. Sometimes, they fight for Dominance. The Terabyte Music Player and the Backup Camera have a particularly contentious relationship, and turning on the music has about a 25% chance of turning on the backup camera as well, and turning on the Backup Camera is equally likely to turn on the music.
Firthermore, The Van has a favorite song.
I am not kidding that Dad filled an entire terabyte hard drive with music and the software to sort it via the radio controls, but of all the Early Boomer Dad Rock (Kingston Trio over The Eagles) and Irish Folk and Symphonies and the entire discography of Weird Al Yankovic, The Van's favorite song- The one it picks to play as victory music every time it beats the Backup Camera at their weird electronic game of rock-paper-scissors -is The Liberty Bell March by John Phillip Sousa.
You all know this song already.
...but in case you've forgotten the tune:
youtube
Yeah.
The Van's favorite song is the goddamn Monty Python's Flying Circus Theme Music.
It does not play this song at a normal volume.
Every time I turn on the Backup Camera and it manages to turn the music player on as well, The Van insists on absolutely blasting this nonsense on at the maximum volume it's physically capable of producing, which I know is loud enough to be heard from the Denver International Airport's Pickup zone when they Van decided to start playing it from the economy lot about half a mile away.
Perhaps it's The Van's way of honoring the aesthetic sensibilities and sonic enthusiasm of Mr. Sousa.
...I can't help but wonder if the purpose of an Epic Van Wizard is to control this sort of faerie-like malarkey, and channel these chaotic energies into things like Spell of Don't Break Down In Nevada or Enchantment Of Always Have Good Parking.
---
So last Friday the 13th, I get a call from my friend and housemate, at said airport.
It's roughly 11PM at night, and I have already retired for the evening. I am in the exact minimum of clothing required to be a decent housemate and not scandalize the neighbors should I happen to walk by a window. My feet are up. There is a cat in my lap and fictional British people murdering each other in highly inventive fashion on the tv. -But my friend has returned from her friend's wedding, and either American or United Airlines has managed to lose her luggage, including, among other valuable possessions, the keys to her car. ...So she cannot just drive home as originally planned.
There are, as luck would have it, her spare set of keys not eight feet from me.
Being a good and decent person, I agree to bring the spare keys to her so she may get home before daybreak and not spend a semester's worth of tuition on an uber across the greater Denver traffic jam.
Being also that she Loves Activities, and it's her mom we're going to pick up, I elect to take along The Creature.
I am primarily focused on remembering how to get to the airport and not leaving my friend's spare keys on the counter, so I throw on a pair of flip-flops, step outside, remember that it's AUTUMN and my minimal evening attire is not sufficient thermal protection, step back in, grab the first coat in the closet I lay hands on, pull it on, check that I have her keys again and leave.
The trip to the airport is largely unremarkable, save that it becomes necessary for me to put on sunglasses to drive, despite it being nearly the witching hour and almost entirely darker than the inside of a cow.
It's necessary because this blissful darkness of night is violently punctured by a startling number of cars that seem to have installed miniaturized but no less powerful lighthouse bulbs in where their headlights ought to go so the oncoming traffic and sports cars that insist on tailgating me in the slow lane alike illuminate the road and my mirrors with the kind of radiance I'd normally associate with the arrival of a Seraphim.
I arrive at the distant highly discounted airport car lot where my housemate is waiting, deeply apologetic. It's nothing. I say. Once I see that your car starts up, I'm gonna go to that 7-11 across the way that I parked in front of, get a slurpee or something and I'll see you at home.
While she is retrieving her vehicle (an equally eccentric but much more stately Subaru that is old enough to be elected to congress) I rifle through the loose change in the glove box and discover that I have exactly $6.66 in small bills and coins. The Subaru, continuing it's long voyage into vehicular immortality, immediately starts up.
Upon her return, we all remember that my friend had all her camping gear in the backseat of the car and there is no room for The Creature to ride home with her parent, so I again assure her it's nothing, and will just take The Creature into the 7-11 with me. She is trained as a service animal and needs the practice after the plague.
I wave my friend off and turn to enter the 7-11.
I promptly trip over the jutting back bumper of The Van and fall, cartoonishly, face-first onto the sidewalk.
Fortunately, I have a lot of practice falling on my face, and have learned not to throw my hands out but instead cover my face, so my unexpected self-inflicted attempted curb-stomping lightly scrapes my hairline and nothing else -my sunglasses even stay in place- and I get up and resume my quest for a slurpee.
It's well known that the airport is a lawless place, and the 7-11 across from the discounted airport parking at the stroke of midnight is no exception.
I know it's the stroke of Midnight because there's one of those Audubon society bird-call clocks that makes bird noises, and my arrival is heralded by the twittering call of a Summer Tanager. I am almost charmed enough by the unusual choice of chronological device to excuse the exorbitant Airport-adjacent mark-up of Slurpee prices. I stand at the machine for some time, trying to decide on a size for the price and guess what the fuck "Blue Lighting Blast" is supposed to taste like.
The Creature is being Very Polite but is somewhat agitated, I assume because she *just* saw her mother for the first time in three days and then she LEFT with no explanation, so The Creature is on her hind legs, staring woefully into my eyes, asking to be escorted around the 7-11. Even though that's not what she's not supposed to be doing, there's nobody else in here, so I let her hang off my arm and discuss various Slurpee Flavor options with her.
We eventually decide on an experiment in which I try a Small Blue Lightning Blast, and discover it tastes a bit like licking a nintendo cartridge but in a pleasantly satisfying way.
I go up to pay and realize something is amiss.
The Cashier is a young man staring at me with wide eyes, one had over the register and the other wrapped up in his rosary.
I look down at myself.
In my haste to reunite my friend with her spare keys and service animal, I had left the house in the following accoutrements:
Flip Flops. Not matching. It's below freezing outside. That last part is not particularly odd footwear for the weather in for Colorado, but it's an important detail for the rest of the ensemble.
Assorted scrapes, bruises, cuts and welts on my arms and legs that come with doing outdoor work and living in a house with three dogs and a fully-clawed cat that all want to be in my lap all the time. It's cold out, so vasoconstriction has pulled the blood away from my skin, a trait that served my ancestors well during the last Ice Age, but leaves me with pale skin to contrast the various wounds and I look like a corpse that fell out of the back of a pickup truck.
The black Bootyshorts with "CRYPTID" painted in bright red gothic font across my ass, that @theshitpostcalligrapher gave me for my wedding present.
A peculiar but extremely comfortable garment that straddles the line between "Lacy Camisole" and "Industrial-Strength Sports Bra" like the Ever Given straddling the Suez Canal. It is also Bright Red. with black accents.
The Jacket I had grabbed out of the closet, which is in fact, a black Velour Dinner Jacket.
The Tokyo-Ghoul inspired reusable anti-covid mask a friend made me with the set of Coyote Teeth.
My sunglasses, which are shaped like a Halloween Bat. The lenses are the wings and the body is the nose bridge. It is ALSO bright red.
A Very Large and remarkably Humanoid Poodle that I have been audibly affectionately calling "Dear Creature" who is hanging off my arm like she's my Prom Date.
The Very Large and remarkably Humanoid Poodle is ALSO dressed up in a black Dog Sweater that has white bones printed on it to look like its an X-ray jacket showing off her skeleton.
I look like I am taking my Very Fancy Werewolf Girlfriend to a particularly casual Dinner Party for Vampires, but the thing that's really selling it and probably alarming the kid the most is the fun accessory I acquired in the parking lot not five minutes earlier:
The "Small Scrape At my Hairline" is actually a painless but PROFUSELY bleeding head wound that I had somehow entirely failed to notice covering my face, neck, decolletage and magnificent cleavage with blood like a Tarantino Film Extra.
This does explain why The Creature has been delicately trying to use her bodyweight to push me down onto the floor for the last ten minutes. So I don't injure myself while we wait for the paramedics she hoped this kid called to arrive, you see.
The Creature has such a High and Naive Opinion of humanity.
I decide this social situation is already fucked, and the only way out is through, and with haste, before I start dripping on the floor.
"Hi there!" I say cheerfully, to indicate this is a visually alarming but not terribly serious situation. "Just a Small Slurpee!"
The Cashier has entered the relevant code into the register before I finish the sentence. His gaze flicks off me just long enough to look at the total, and he grips his Rosary harder.
$6.66
"Oh cool! I have exact change!" I say, taking the money out of my as-yet-unsanguined pocket without looking and slap it down on the counter. "You have a good night and be safe out there!" I wave, leaving.
I get in The Van, mortified, buckle The Creature up, and as I make to leave, I have to put it in reverse, which automatically turns on the backup Camera.
It also turns on the music player.
I make eye contact with the cashier as the dulcet tones of John Phillip Sousa boom from the van hard enough to make the windshield and the windows of the 7-11 rattle for the nine-and-a-half seconds I have to wait to be able to turn the volume back down. Not knowing what else to to, I give him a thumbs up, and leave.
Anyway, now I know what my Future Van Wizard has got to be dressed like, and what their familiar is.

Cadillac was founded in 1902 by Henry Leland, who named the company after Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, who happens to be the founder of Detroit. Just 6 short years later Cadillac brought the idea of interchangeable parts to the automotive industry and laid the ground work for modern mass production of automobiles. As a result, Cadillac became the first American car to win the prestigious Dewar Trophy from the Royal Automobile Club of England. After earning such high praise Cadillac adopted the slogan "Standard of the World."
In 1910, Cadillac became the first company to offer a passenger car with a fully enclosed cabin, a major change from the vehicles of the time. Two years after that, in 1912, the company released the Model Thirty, the car with no crank, which was the first production car to feature an electronic self-starter, ignition, and lighting. By dropping the crank starter, Cadillac opened the door to women drivers, and was able to bring the prestigious Dewar trophy back to Detroit, making Cadillac the only car manufacturer to claim the award twice. Nearly three years later, Cadillac brought the world the V-type, water-cooled, eight cylinder (V8) engine, which would become the signature of the Cadillac brand.
The Roaring 20's was not only a big decade for the country but was also important for Cadillac. In 1926, Cadillac branched out and offered customers more than 500 color combinations to choose from. As the famous Henry Ford saying goes, you can have any color you want, as long as it's black. Cadillac changed this mentality. That same year, the company brought in designer Harley Earl to design the 1927 LaSalle convertible coupe, which made the car the first to be designed from a designer's perspective rather than an engineering one. What Earl created was elegant, with flowing lines, chrome-plate fixtures, and an overarching design philosophy, that made the Cadillac brand known for beauty and luxury.
In the middle of the 1930's a midst The Great Depression, while most companies and families were struggling Cadillac created the first V-type 16-cylinder engine for use in a passenger car. This engine would go on to be one of the most iconic engines in Cadillac history. Shortly thereafter, Cadillac released a V12 version to give buyers something between the already popular V8 and new V16 engines.
Cadillac went quiet in the 1941's when they suspended automobile production to help produce planes for the war. After the war ended Cadillac adapted some of the aircraft technology and created the first ever tailfin on a vehicle. This feature is now found on almost every car and was one of the biggest reasons that Cadillac was given the first ever Car of the Year award in 1949.
The tailfin took off rather quickly and by the mid to late 1950's it was being featured heavily in the design of nearly every vehicle. Also in the 50's Cadillac began developing power steering, which helped the automaker take third, tenth, and eleventh places at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After Cadillac's stunning "victories" power steering quickly became the new standard of the industry.
Small but meaningful innovations filled the 1960's for Cadillac. In 1963, the company made front seatbelts standard in their vehicles, which lead to the eventual passing of a federal law requiring front seatbelts in all vehicles just one year later. Then, in 1964, Cadillac brought to market automatically controlled headlamps and redefines luxury with Comfort Control, the industry's first thermostatically controlled heating, venting, and air-conditioning system. Over the next few years, Cadillac introduced variable-ratio power steering, electric seat warmers, and stereo radio.
While the 1960's were fairly quiet, with only some smaller, luxury items being introduced, Cadillac started out 1970 with a major bang. Cadillac opened the decade by unveiling the 400 horsepower, 8.2-liter engine Eldorado. With its completely redesigned axle this model boasted the highest torque capacity of any passenger car available at the time. Closing out the decade, Cadillac brought to market the 1978 Seville which used onboard microprocessors in its digital display. This started the era of the computerized automobile.
Throughout the 1980's Cadillac laid low, working on some new technologies that would come to market in the early parts of the 1990's. The first feature to debut was an electronic traction control system on front-wheel drive vehicles. Cadillac began offering this as a standard feature on the 1990 Cadillac Allante. This same year Cadillac would go on to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Two years later, in 1992, the company developed a feature that allowed the engine to run for up to 50 miles without coolant, and a unique induction system for near-perfect fuel distribution. The Seville Touring Sedan of that year would become known as the "Cadillac of the Year" thanks to features such as an all electronically controlled Powertrain, traction control, anti-lock brakes and speed-sensitive suspension. Closing out the decade, Cadillac introduced the, now iconic, Escalade SUV.
CELEBRATING 100 YEARS AS 'THE STANDARD OF THE WORLD'
Coming up on the 100th anniversary of the Cadillac brand, the company had to do something big or the decade, and they did not disappoint. Cadillac started off the 200's by introducing the F-22 stealth aircraft inspired Cien Concept, which ended up winning a few design awards. Later in the decade, in 2008, Cadillac expanded the Escalade SUV by making it the world's first full-size luxury hybrid SUV. In the same year, the company redeveloped the CTS Sedan. This redesign has been incredibly popular and even won the coveted 2008 Car of the Year award. A short year later, the performance edition CTS-V, becomes the fasted V8 production sedan in the world, establishing a record lap time of 7:59:32 on Germany's famed Nürburgring.

AE101 TRD 2000
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In October 1994, Toyota Racing Development (TRD) introduced the AE101 TRD 2000, a highly exclusive version of the Corolla GT sedan designed specifically for the Japanese market. This model was meticulously engineered to emulate the performance specifications of the 1994 Corolla JTCC race car. Under the hood, the TRD 2000 featured a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter 3S-GE engine, delivering 180 PS (132 kW), coupled with a new 5-speed S54 manual gearbox. To enhance its performance, TRD equipped the car with a heavy-duty clutch, a mechanical limited-slip differential (LSD), and a quick shifter, ensuring precise and responsive gear changes.
The TRD 2000's handling was significantly improved with a new suspension system that lowered the ride height by 20 mm, alongside 15-inch TRD Type-FT wheels shod with Yokohama Grand Prix M5 tires. The braking system was upgraded with TRD brakes, providing superior stopping power. A stainless steel dual exhaust system not only improved performance but also added a distinctive sound. The car's exterior featured a subtle trunk spoiler and was available exclusively in white, giving it a clean and sporty appearance.
Inside, the TRD 2000 was fitted with König Prinz P200 bucket seats and a TRD steering wheel, creating a driver-focused cockpit. Despite its impressive features and race-inspired design, the TRD 2000 was a rare sight on the roads. Originally, 99 units were planned for production, but only 10 were sold due to the high price tag, which was even higher than the cost of the Celica GT-Four ST205. This limited availability and unique blend of performance and refinement make the TRD 2000 a coveted piece of Toyota's automotive history.

Hino Contessa 1300 Coupé
The name Hino was taken from the homonymous town in the Tokyo prefecture where the company's headquarters were (and still are). His first steps were to create powerful military vehicles for the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. Once the greatest war of all time was over, it dedicated itself to the manufacture of diesel engines, trucks and buses. The post-war Japanese automobile industry underwent a major transformation thanks to the numerous agreements that many manufacturers made with car brands in Europe and the United States. Hino was no different. The operations were going from strength to strength, they had already earned an important place in the industry and even theirs was the first trolleybus in the history of Japan. The brand wanted to expand its business by launching into the world of passenger cars. Already under the name of Hino Motors, it signed a collaboration agreement with Renault in February 1953 and two months later they began to manufacture the Renault 4CV (also called Renault 4/4) under license. In Japan it was marketed as the Hino PA and some 35,000 units were sold in the 10 years it was in production. The French brand ceased production of the Renault 4CV in 1961, so Hino set out to take another step in the automotive world: manufacture its own car. They contacted the prolific Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, who had worked with brands as relevant as Ferrari, Lancia, Maserati, Alpine or Triumph, to draw the silhouette of the new Japanese car.
The Hino Contessa 900 used the base of the Renault 4CV but at first glance no one could recognize that link due to the charming sedan body designed by the Turin designer. Renault's 35 hp 0.9-litre engine was positioned at the rear and was sufficient to animate the rear axle with the 750 kg that the car weighed. Shortly after, the Hino Contessa 900 Sprint was launched, a coupe version that reduced the weight by 100 kg and had an engine powered by Nardi up to 45 CV. With an attractive design, greater habitability -it offered space for five passengers, one seat more than the 4CV- and the proven reliability of its engine, it was not surprising that the Contessa achieved good sales results. 47,299 units were marketed between 1961 and 1964, a small part of them manufactured beyond the Japanese borders. The great reception in the market of its first car encouraged Hino to develop the second generation. Once again, Michelotti was in charge of its design, who had an overwhelming personality. The front with double optics and no grille was clearly reminiscent of the Chevrolet Corvair while the general lines were similar to other models designed by Michelotti such as the Triumph 2000. The Italian designer had been inspired by the English and American cars for this Japanese model with a French engine. Long live globalization! The Hino Contessa 1300 was bigger and heavier than its predecessor, but also more powerful by using a 1.3-liter 55 hp engine from the Renault 8. It began its commercial journey in 1964 and a few months later the sports version with bodywork arrived. two-door, the Contessa 1300 Coupé with 65 CV. The second generation of the Contessa was exported to several countries around the world, being manufactured in Japan, Israel and New Zealand.

Porsche Panamera
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The presentation of the first generation (code name 970), which took place in April 2009 in China, revealed only part of the model range (3 versions), later expanded to 9 (including a diesel and a hybrid). Furthermore, there is a version with a 15cm longer wheelbase, called Executive.
In April 2013, a restyling was presented which, in addition to modifications to the headlights and bumpers, introduced some new engine features.
The 400 HP 4.8 V8 was replaced by the more powerful and high-performance 420 HP 3.0 V6 biturbo for the S version.
Car body
edit
The Panamera is a 4-door coupé approximately 5 meters long, with top speeds ranging between 259 km/h for the Diesel version and 310 km/h for the Turbo S version. The four seats consist of single seats; the external style deliberately recalls that of the Porsche 911, especially at the front, so as to make the Panamera immediately recognizable as a Porsche.
Production takes place in the Leipzig plant, the same one where the Porsche Cayenne is assembled, demonstrating the presence of many points in common between the two models (starting from the engines and the integral transmission on the 4S and Turbo models).
The markets for which the model is intended are, in addition to Europe and the USA, above all the emerging markets (Russia, China, Middle East): for this reason the presentation took place at the Chinese show in Shanghai.
In April 2013, the restyled version of the Panamera was announced, which then made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show. The plug-in hybrid version, called Panamera S E-Hybrid, was introduced on the US market in November 2013.
Tumblr media
The second generation Panamera was unveiled on 28 June 2016 at an event held in Berlin. The code name is Type 971; the car, built on the VW Group's new Porsche MSB (Modular Standard Drive) platform, is 35 millimeters longer and 5 mm wider than the first generation, with 30 millimeters more wheelbase. The interior features a redesigned dashboard, with center console instrumentation made up of touch-sensitive surfaces replacing the previous generation with physical buttons. The tachometer, the only analogue instrument, is mounted centrally on the instrument panel and recalls that of the 1955 Porsche 356 A. The new car is equipped with two seven-inch displays instead of the classic pointer dials in the dashboard, with another screen 12.3-inch touchscreen that also acts as a satellite navigator with Apple CarPlay integration present in the center console. The new instrumentation is called Advanced Cockpit. Under the bonnet is a new range of engines, with only the Panamera 4S, 4S Diesel and Turbo versions available at launch.
Tumblr media
In March 2017 Porsche presented the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, a plug-in hybrid car. The Turbo S E-Hybrid features the 4.0-liter V8 engine from the Panamera Turbo, but it comes paired with an electric motor. The total system output is 680 hp, making it the second most powerful production Porsche ever built, after the 918 Spyder.
In this new model the torque of the overall system rises to 850 Nm, reaching the torque level of the Diesel version. Performance also increases, 0-100 is covered in 3.4 and 0-200 in 8.2 seconds.
Tumblr media
The new Panamera aesthetically no longer features the rounded tailgate that had divided automotive critics of the previous series, but now the tail with a more tapered and squared style recalls that of the 991 through the headlights and the longitudinal rear LED strip. This improvement in design helped clarify the model's identity as a touring-oriented sports car.
In March 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show, a shooting brake version of the Panamera II series built on the same base, called Panamera Sport Turismo, was presented.
The restyling of the second generation Panamera was presented on August 26, 2020.

Texans are terrible drivers born with the innate need to run red lights whenever possible, but much of the insanity of Texan driver is attributed to the interstates, where 65 miles per translates to "95 in the slow lane" through the magic of the southern drawl.
The Buick Century got its name from the term "doing the Century," its marketers boasting of the ability to reach the unheard of speed of 100mph with the help of a hotrodded inline eight engine. Nowadays Your average Texan V6 Ford driver hits that on their way to sit in Dallas traffic for 2 hours.
The beauty of the highway is that there's generally nobody on it, which allows you to go speeds that-- why yes officer I must have just been a little road weary and zoned out, I'll stop at the next rest stop a few miles down the road. Except Texas seems to hold an ungodly amount of people for a state proclaiming to be very big and full of open spaces, and all of them are mad at you and your four cylinder compact for not letting them take their F150s to what would be felony speeds anywhere else. They're even madder in Dallas Traffic, because "the city of a thousand overpasses" is somehow always one overpass away from solving the automotive bottleneck that turns perfectly good interstate into one long parking lot.
That last bit is the kicker. The Texas driver is a bad driver in all environments, but straightline highway is where the reputation thrives. Urban traffic, with its turn lanes and roadsigns (other than the ones that say "Stop," they know to ignore those) robs them of the power to tailgate at velocities previously reserved for Maglev trains.
Enter the Italian Driver, an invasive species born for bullying their way across eight lanes of dense urban traffic in a vehicle that looks like a car if you squint and ignore both the two stroke motorcycle engine powering it and the fact that you can adjust both door mirrors from the drivers seat. At the same time.
The italian will do its best to keep up at highway speeds, but soon as traffic slows down, it's all over. The average texan is left utterly bewildered by the maneuvers of the Italian driver. The average italian regularly makes illegal turns so heinous as to earn their own section in the geneva convention. We simply cannot let this take root. San Antonio has Terracotta roofs already, the soil is ripe, it'll be like Kudzu in the south all over again.

listen, i know that integrating military operations into americas civil infrastructure -- such as with power grids, interstate systems, and industrial contracting -- already serves as:
a perfect cultural and fiscal conduit to divert public support and implicate public productivity in global imperialist expansion of capital
a keystone to the integrity of society as a ubiquitous undercover presence of institutionalized vigilance
a subsequent impediment of potential foes' ability to discern and target discrete military infrastructure without risking mass civilian suffering.
i get it. but i think we should get just one thing. be the sprout that cracks the parking lot.
well accomplish it through conventional political means of course, lobby for something innocuous enough that it wont alert them to the potential disruption of their delusion of defending common sentiment about security and safety, but just practical enough to mark them and isolate their operations from civilian life. heres how we can sell it.
you know, it's such a shame that our angels in blue are protected by the same sheet metal and shatter proof glass fortifications as potential criminals.
a pity that our last defense against anarchy have to work with headlights on par with average civilian SUV lumens.
neglectful, reprehensibly so, that we haven't developed Police Department branded and exlusive fentanyl proof seat textiles and air filters.
the uniform is more than just a civilian with a paint job, yknow? so, in light of trendy rampant disrespect, one could go so far as to say that it would honor our police battalion to incorporate their automotive investments into a top-down, market stable, state owned enterprise, whose products are marked by unparalleled aesthetic and operational excellence.
why does maureen need headlights that bright? those should be reserved for our law enforcement officers to ensure top of the line supervision. dont you think that physically imposing double-wide rims, spokes, and wheel compartments would invoke elegance and authority on our tax-bought chariots of law, and can only be securely produced by a trustworthy sister manufacturer? special mirrors too for insurance reasons. in a different perspective, have we considered that hoods exceeding the height of your average 4th grader could be weaponized against our civil servants?
i know, itll be tough selling the deliberate consolidation and seizure of the wartime democratic power of stock and lobbyist diversity, but i think we need to stand up for whats right. by my calculations, a little pseudo-accelerationist fullerton-fiddling factionalism, in tandem with some clutch political infiltration and cultural warfare in the form of an orchestrated game of patriotic chicken, can goad bootlickers into accidentally isolating and highlighting their supply lines and fleet movements by 2026.

The Chevrolet Astro Van was a popular minivan produced by General Motors from 1985 to 2005. Designed to compete with the Chrysler Voyager and Dodge Caravan, the Astro Van was marketed as a versatile and reliable family vehicle with ample cargo space.
The Astro Van was built on a truck platform, which gave it a durable and sturdy frame. Its boxy exterior design was reminiscent of the popular American vans of the 1970s, such as the Ford Econoline and Dodge Tradesman. However, its interior was designed to be more comfortable and convenient for families, with features such as bucket seats, air conditioning, and power windows.
Over the years, the Chevy Astro Van underwent several updates and revisions. In 1990, it received a facelift that included a new front grille and updated headlights. In 1995, it was given a more powerful engine option and a redesigned dashboard with a more modern look.
Despite its popularity, the Astro Van was eventually phased out in 2005 due to declining sales and changes in consumer preferences towards more fuel-efficient vehicles. However, it left a lasting legacy as a reliable and versatile vehicle that served as a trusted family companion for many years. It also spawned a sibling model, the GMC Safari, which was sold alongside the Astro Van for much of its production run.
Today, the Chevy Astro Van remains a beloved classic among car enthusiasts and collectors. Its unique blend of truck-like durability and family-friendly features make it a nostalgic symbol of a bygone era in American automotive history.

Small UAV Market is Estimated To Attain a Significant CAGR of 16.2%
Small UAV Market Size by Research Nester Reveals the Market to Grow with a CAGR of 16.2% During 2024-2037 and Attain USD 88.7 Billion by 2037
Research Nester assesses the growth and market size of global small UAV market which is anticipated to be on account of the surge in small UAVs in recent years, driven by their diverse applications in aerial photography, surveillance, agriculture, and delivery services.
Research Nester’s recent market research analysis on “Small UAV Market: Global Demand Analysis & Opportunity Outlook 2037” delivers a detailed competitor’s analysis and a detailed overview of the global small UAV market in terms of market segmentation by type, application, platform, and by region.
Growing Advancement in Small UAV Technology
Small UAVs are becoming more and more accessible to both individuals and businesses as a result of advancements in technology. This makes small UAVs more affordable, adaptable, and effortless to use. In particular, small UAVs are essential for target acquisition, reconnaissance, and surveillance in military operations. Next-generation military UAVs appear to be growing at an accelerated rate based on their ongoing evolution. To enable warfighters, commanders, and troops to effectively respond to threats, real-time information is invaluable in military operations. Small UAVs are becoming more and more popular among armed forces throughout the world, which is further fueling the market's expansion.
Furthermore, developing countries have seen a notable increase in the use of UAVs for border safety and monitoring. An excellent illustration of this is the Middle East, where Israel is emerging as a significant drone manufacturer and exporter. It has recorded an export of a total of USD 12.5 billion including drones and other air defense. For activities such as land surveying, 3D and 2D mapping and visualization, waste reduction, progress tracking, and project site monitoring, small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are in high demand in the construction industry.
Some of the major growth factors and challenges that are associated with the growth of the global automotive seat control module market are:
Growth Drivers:
Increasing Accessibility of Drones for Recreational Use
Joint Research Initiatives Between Academia & Industries
Challenges:
Sensor accuracy and reliability create a challenging scenario in the small UAV market. Errors due to calibration inaccuracies, environmental conditions, and sensor drift are the main reasons for problems in accuracy. For instance, temperature fluctuations may degrade the function of a temperature sensor, and thus, provide erroneous measurement values. Moreover, the nature of materials and construction applied to the sensor also plays a huge role in creating difficulties in the proper functionalities of small UAVs. In addition, low-quality components will tend to degrade faster and provide erroneous data, consequently, reliability can also be compromised by instability in its power supply, physical damage, or interference from other electronic devices.
Access our detailed report at: https://www.researchnester.com/reports/small-drone-market/6588
By platform, the rotatory wings segment is anticipated to garner the highest revenue by the end of 2037. The SAR missions are well suited for rotary-wing SUVs because of their design for extended hovering. With varying endurance and payload capacities, these SUVs are available in different versions. However, vertical takeoff and landing, and quick direction changes are the main advantages of rotary-wing drones over fixed-wing counterparts. For instance, the Indian Army announced in September 2023 intention to incorporate micro-drones into its main battle tanks. These are intended for enemy detection and can take off vertically from the tank's turret, giving real-time intelligence on their movements. Their ability to take off and land vertically makes them an invaluable asset for tactical missions as they can maneuver through the most difficult weather and terrain.
By region, the North America small UAV market is projected to generate considerable revenue by the end of 2037. The region is at the forefront of creating cutting-edge UAV technologies as a calculated move to counter possible threats. These developments include enhanced payload capacities and better onboard tracking. The country's increased R&D efforts, extensive testing of autonomous UAVs, and development of drone defense technologies justify the substantial growth. In addition, the region is constantly looking for low-cost innovations to improve its capabilities, especially in light of the growing tensions with countries such as China and Russia. For instance, The Pentagon launched a program in August 2023 to fortify its autonomous systems, particularly UAVs, to offset China's growing military might.

Unveiling Excellence: The Art of Automotive Review
Tumblr media
The automotive world is a thrilling blend of innovation, technology, and design. For enthusiasts and potential buyers alike, the automotive review is an essential guide to understanding what a car truly offers. Whether evaluating performance, comfort, or advanced features, a comprehensive automotive review can help car enthusiasts and consumers make informed decisions.
In this blog, we explore the art of reviewing automobiles and why it remains a critical part of the car-buying process.
The Purpose of an Automotive Review
An automotive review serves multiple purposes. It provides:
Detailed Insights: Reviews dive into specifics like engine performance, handling, fuel efficiency, and safety features, giving readers a clear picture of the vehicle’s capabilities.
Comparative Analysis: Reviews often compare vehicles in the same segment, highlighting strengths and weaknesses. This helps buyers weigh their options effectively.
Real-World Perspective: Beyond glossy advertisements, an automotive review offers a genuine account of how a car performs in real-world conditions.
Whether it’s a first-time buyer or an experienced car enthusiast, these insights make reviews a vital resource.
Key Elements of an Automotive Review
A great automotive review balances technical details with practical observations. Here’s what goes into crafting one:
1. Exterior Design
The first impression of any car is its design. Reviews typically explore the vehicle's aesthetics, from sleek body lines to the integration of functional elements like headlights, grille designs, and aerodynamics.
2. Interior Comfort and Features
The cabin’s design, materials, and technology play a significant role in shaping the driving experience. An automotive review assesses seating comfort, legroom, and tech features like infotainment systems, connectivity, and climate controls.
3. Performance Metrics
A car’s performance is the heart of any review. This includes engine specifications, acceleration, braking, and handling. Reviews also delve into fuel efficiency, highlighting how the car balances power and economy.
4. Safety Features
Modern cars are equipped with advanced safety technologies. An automotive review evaluates features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and collision mitigation systems, helping buyers prioritize safety.
5. Pricing and Value
No review is complete without discussing the vehicle’s pricing and overall value proposition. Does the car justify its price tag with the features it offers?
Types of Automotive Reviews
The scope of an automotive review varies depending on its focus.
Expert Reviews: Conducted by industry professionals, these reviews are detailed, offering in-depth technical analyses.
Consumer Reviews: Written by owners, these reviews reflect long-term usability and personal experiences.
Comparative Reviews: These juxtapose similar models, helping readers understand which car stands out in a competitive market.
Each type serves a different audience but collectively enriches the car-buying process.
Why Trust an Automotive Review?
In the digital age, there’s no shortage of opinions, but a credible automotive review stands out for its depth and reliability. These reviews are often backed by hands-on testing, ensuring accuracy and authenticity.
Professional reviewers also have access to test tracks, off-road environments, and high-end equipment to evaluate a vehicle’s full potential. For the everyday buyer, this level of scrutiny provides peace of mind.
The Evolution of Automotive Reviews
The way we consume automotive reviews has evolved. What began as print articles in magazines has now transitioned to digital platforms, video reviews, and social media content. Visuals, immersive storytelling, and real-time updates have made reviews more engaging and accessible.
Interactive platforms also allow readers to ask questions, clarifying doubts before making a purchase.
Conclusion
An automotive review is more than a critique; it’s a tool that empowers buyers. Whether you’re eyeing a family SUV, a sporty coupe, or an electric vehicle, reviews provide the clarity needed to make informed decisions.
From performance metrics to interior comfort and value-for-money analysis, a well-rounded automotive review ensures that you drive home the car that fits your lifestyle and expectations. As the automotive world continues to evolve, staying informed through credible reviews will remain an indispensable part of the journey.

Sir Vival, the two-piece safety Hudson
Sir Vival, Walter Jerome's Hudson-based concept for the ultimate safety car, last moved under its own power sometime around when he showed the car at the New York World's Fair in 1964 or 1965. Since then, it's been split apart, reassembled, shuffled all over eastern Massachusetts, and remained hidden more or less in plain sight, but nobody's made an attempt to get it running again. That'll change now that longtime owner Ed Moore of Bellingham Auto Sales has sold Sir Vival to Jeff Lane of the Lane Motor Museum.
"It'll be the perfect fit," Lane said. "I've been pestering him about it for a while."
Moore, as we reported in November, has decided to close the doors at Bellingham, which he considers the last active Hudson dealership in the world, and has been either selling off his inventory of cars and parts or transferring portions of his lifelong collection to his house nearby.
Tumblr media
In 1958, Worcester-based Walter Jerome decided it was about time somebody built a car designed primarily for safety and not for looks or speed. Rapidly increasing numbers of highway deaths - especially in the postwar period - led many to call for greater automotive safety as early as 1947, but the response from Detroit was tepid at best throughout the Fifties. Ford made a few gestures at improving automotive safety, including funding a study on safety cars at Cornell, but it largely fell to independents and individuals to build cars with safety features designed into the vehicle.
Jerome decided to start with a step-down Hudson - which he bought from Bellingham - and split it into two sections "to anticipate the possibility of collision from any angle." Similar to Bela Barenyi's idea for the crumple zone, Jerome intended the front section, mounted via a hinge to the rear section, to absorb a collision rather than deflect one, noting that the rigidity of typical cars was what led to injuries and deaths in collisions. To each of the two sections, Jerome added steel bumpers that acted, in his words, like a second frame, and rubber bumpers around the steel designed to redirect all but direct collisions. Yes, he built a full-size bumper car.
Tumblr media
He didn't stop there. The driver controlled the car from a turret-mounted central driver's seat surrounded by a "full circle" windshield for greater visibility. (According to Jerome's literature, the windshield itself rotated past stationary windshield wipers as part of Jerome's quest for maximum driver visibility.) The exterior is fitted with high-visibility marker and signal lamps; the parallelogram doors are designed not to pop open in a crash; and the interior features seat belts, padding, and even a rollbar.
"It is all too obvious that Detroit has no plans to come up with anything really new," Jerome wrote. "Their 1964 cars are already on the drawing boards and spring from the same rigid frames. I hold that human life is important, far more important than Detroit's worry about the cost of retooling to produce an automobile which will save human lives. Adoption of the flexible Sir Vival design would make rigid vehicles obsolete and create a new market, almost immediately, for 65 million vehicles."
Moore and his family assisted Jerome over the years with Sir Vival, including one episode Moore recalls in which he went to Worcester to retrieve the vehicle from the fourth floor of a warehouse, where Jerome had stored it in two pieces, so it could be reassembled and transported to Jerome's house on Cape Cod. After Jerome's death in the early 1970s, the Moores took possession of Sir Vival and brought it back to Bellingham. While Moore had hoped Sir Vival would have gone to Eldon Hostetler's Hudson museum, it turned out fortuitous that he didn't donate it to Hostetler, given that the museum was closed and liquidated in 2018. Sir Vival has thus primarily sat in its pride of place in Bellingham Auto Sales's garage ever since.
"It needs gone right through," Moore said. "It's not really something I want to take home and just let it sit there. Jeff, he's the guy who'd really appreciate it. He'll build it and do it right."
Tumblr media
Lane said he's only seen Sir Vival once in person, when he spent an entire day up at Bellingham Auto Parts four or five years ago. "I recall it as not terrible, but also not in great condition," he said. "It's not like it's been outside for 40 years, rusting away." While he won't have a more definitive plan about what to do with Sir Vival until he picks it up later this month, he said he wants to go through it mechanically without restoring the entire car, if possible.
"I'd say the closest it comes to any other vehicle in the (Lane Motor Museum's) collection is the Dymaxion," Lane said. "It's a really interesting story but it's really been pretty much hidden away from the general public."
Moore, for his part, said he'll continue selling Hudsons from his home garage even after the Bellingham Auto Sales property becomes a warehouse. "I still have my new and used car licenses," he said. "I know I can't keep them all, but I've tried."
UPDATE (6.January 2023): The Lane has started restoration on Sir Vival, according to a Facebook post from the museum. "Sir Vival has been separated into two pieces, and the automotive archaeology begins!"

Aion Indonesia Ready to Showcase Latest Models at GJAW 2024
Tumblr media
Aion Indonesia is getting ready for a very much-awaited launch of models at the 2024 Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) that will run from November 22 to December 1, 2024. What is expected to attract car enthusiasts to the venue in ICE BSD, Tangerang, of course, is the arrival of the brand into the electric vehicle (EV) scene. It plans to bring the latest model from the Aion Series, which has already shaken markets such as Europe and Australia.
Aion's High-Appreciated Electric Car
Aion Indonesia's CEO, Andry Ciu said that the new electric car had already gained great global acclaim for its impressively long range, ultra-fast charging, and great cruising power. "This model gets great praise.". They are impressed with the ability to travel and fast charging it, as well as its cruising power so that it allows users to travel further," said Ciu in an official statement on Monday (11/18/2024). This praise to the vehicle was in regards to its ability to meet the needs of a modern driver who is looking for vehicles offering longer ranges and convenience, in the not-so-competitive EV market. Exterior Design: Inspired by the Tyrannosaurus Rex
A teaser image Aion Indonesia released showed that this new model boasts design on the exterior exuding boldness, sharp lines, and robust posture. Design inspiration for the vehicle is based on the historic strength and agility possessed by the Tyrannosaurus Rex, representing the boldness and power Aion is supposed to convey. That dashing design is not only attractive but addresses the car's capability and modern aesthetic.
Luxury Interior for Comfort and Convenience
Inside, the car does not disappoint from the stand point of its luxurious feature as it dominates over comfort. The arrangement offers ergonomic butterfly-shaped seats which supports the passengers perfectly. Eight-point massage feature is also offered in this car to make a long drive without tiresome feelings. The backrest of this car can go up to 137 degrees that ensure the superior comfortability of being seated. One notable feature is the large 2.15 m² panoramic roof that can open up and fill the cabin with open and airy spaciousness. Then, there is the car's standard 14.6-inch touchscreen showcasing the latest advanced technology in infotainment and control to ensure everyone has an enjoyable and connected drive.
Supporting Indonesia's EV Ecosystem and Net Zero Emission Goals
The newly launched vehicle of Aion Indonesia supports the efforts made by the government to create an electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia. This is one factor that focuses on the model's environmental friendliness and enables it to be part of the Net Zero Emission target, a goal that the nation promises to attain by the year 2060. The Aion high-performance electric SUV does not only speed up the growing rate of electric vehicles in Indonesia but also motivate people to think and adapt to an eco-friendly way of driving. Beyond performance and comfort, it further helps serve a larger goal: making the automotive industry lighter for the climate. .
This model will be based on the Aion V, a compact SUV already launched in Thailand. Taking into the context the modern technology and sustainability highlighted by this Aion V, it gathered global acclaim, and its introduction in Indonesia marks another step forward in Aion's expansion in Southeast Asia.
